Snowmaking Project Update!

Winter is just around the corner, and we're excited to share the latest progress on Black Mountain of Maine's largest snowmaking investment to date.

Thanks to two incredible grants covering nearly 90% of the project, we're making major improvements that will benefit our guests for years to come. This investment means more reliable snowmaking, better early-season conditions, and an even stronger future for Black Mountain of Maine.

The Project

The Northern Border Regional Commission (NBRC) Grant funded the installation of 10 new tower guns on the St. John and Allagash trails, 5 new mobile guns, and because that portion of the project came in under budget, we were able to add 5 extra tower guns! That's a total of 20 new snow guns!

In addition, a Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS) Grant is allowing us to construct a brand-new pump house equipped with state-of-the-art snowmaking pumps.

Together, these projects represent one of the most significant upgrades to our snowmaking system in the mountain's history.

Progress Update

Here's where the project stands today:

• 20 new snow guns have been installed.

• The new pump house has been framed, Waugh Electric is handling the external electrical work for the pump house. We are currently finalizing the details for the internal electrical contribution, though it is not yet secured, and the siding is now being completed.

• Welding has begun on the manifold.

• * Due to continued rising cost and a time crunch, pond expansion will be pushed to next season.

A Team Effort

The progress our Mountain Operations team, along with volunteers Ron Arsenault and Tim Gallant, have made in such a short time has been incredible. Their hard work and dedication are helping transform Black Mountain of Maine’s snowmaking capabilities and setting the stage for an exciting winter ahead.
