Ski season is in full swing!
Ski season is in full swing here at Black Mountain of Maine! We’ve picked up about 10” of snow since our last update—and in true Mother Nature fashion, a little wet weather mixed in too. January threw us a small curveball when a snowmaking pipe broke on January 4th, but our Mountain Ops crew had it fully repaired by the next day. We fired the pumps back up that following Monday, only to uncover an issue with the motor. The crew jumped right on it, secured a replacement motor Sunday at noon, and dropped it off with AC Electric first thing Monday morning. The motor is currently being checked out, and we’re hopeful to have it back by Friday. Once it’s installed, we plan to fire things back up—fingers crossed for early next week. If we ran the universe, nothing would ever break and it would snow nonstop.
Thank you all for your patience and understanding.
On to the fun stuff! It’s a long holiday weekend and we’ve got an awesome lineup to get you outside and playing. We kicked things off last night with a FREE Ski Night sponsored by Bangor Savings Bank, welcoming over 450 skiers and more than 110 tubers. We’ve got six more Free Ski Nights coming up this season—check out the full schedule here.
L.L.Bean Days are rolling on with $30 lift tickets and $5 uphill tickets every Thursday and Friday (excluding school vacation week), plus free nordic skiing and snowshoeing all season long. Tomorrow night is our second and final Snowmobile Hillclimb of the season—gates open at 4pm and racing kicks off at 6pm. Spectators are welcome, and both the Last Run Pub and Café will be open.
Live music keeps the weekend rolling with the Swift River Drifters in the Last Run Pub on Saturday from 2–5pm (all ages, no cover), followed by Chris Floyd on Sunday from 1–4pm.
Also on Sunday, we’re excited to welcome back The Vertical Challenge—a series of free amateur ski and snowboard races held at resorts across the Northeast. Expect games, prizes, music, and free product samples for a full day of fun on the hill. Racing is free; all you need is a lift ticket (unless you’re a season passholder) and a completed registration form. Super Seniors and kids in grades K–2 ski and ride for FREE.
And to cap off the weekend, we’ll be open Monday from 9am–4pm for skiing and riding, and 12pm–4pm for tubing.
See you on the hill!
